A persistent rise in BP is called high blood pressure or hypertension. It result from narrowing the arterial lumen and reduced elasticity of arterial walls in old age. It can cause rupturing of capillaries. It is a silent killer.

Cause contraction of the arteries. This increase the blood pressure. Frequent tension and stress result in a persistent high blood pressure.
Persistently having the resting arterial blood pressure more than 120/80 mm Hg is called hypertension. In such a case, the heart works harder to pump the required amont of blood to the various organs through narrowed arteries. Arteriosclerosis and atheroma that often occur in old age add to the trouble.
Why blood pressure is a silent killer? It damages the arteries in the kidney, cause a serious diseases called chronic nephritis. It may rupture arteries in the eye, causing blindness; or in the brain, causing temporary or permanent paralysis called stroke.
Intake of excessive saturated fats, carbohydrates, smoking, lack of exercise, high blood cholestrol and adulterated food cause hypertension. About 16% indians are hypertensive. This is finding of a recent survey by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Hypertension is more common is metropolitan cities.
Treatment of hypertension:-
Hypertension is easy to diagnoses and it can be treat by medical and also control by self but take some time.
- Regular exercise

- Avoid smoking

- Decrease intake of salt
