When you ask. What is main cause of overnutrition? Then we say ;Overnutrition is due to consuming more food than you need. The most common problems of overnutrition is overweight and obesity. When you consume more energy than you spend, I.e.more than you need, your body stores the extra energy as fat.

You may ask: How fat is too fat or obese? Obviously just weighing yourself is not enough. Compare your weight with standard table which give you the ideal weight according to height, age, and sex. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure used to detect where ever a person is overweight, underweight or obese.

If your BMI is in the range 18.5 – 24.9 you can consider yourself as normal weight. Should you be concerned about being fat? Fat people suffer from many health problems such as hypertension, stroke, diabetes, heart disease etc. Fat people may die at a younger age.

Effect of overnutrition:-

Overdoses of nutrients in the diet also cause disorder such as hypercholesterolemia, obesity, hypervitaminosis and fluorosis.

Extra fat in and around the chest makes it difficulty for a fat person to breathe. Just climbing the stairs makes them difficult. Effect of overnutrition are:-

1. Hypercholesterolemia:-

It is caused by taking excess of saturated fats such as butter, ghee, hydrogenated vegetables oils, red meat and eggs. Level of cholestrol in blood rises abnormally. Cholestrol is deposited on the lining of arteries and arterioles, which become narrow and stiff.

This leads to high blood pressure because the same amount of blood is to be pushed through narrow tubes. Inner surface of the arteries also become irregular and this may cause clot formation, or thrombosis. Clot formation in a narrowed coronary artery may cause heart attack.

2. Obesity:-

Many people have a question. ” what is cause of obesity ? “. Now we have answer. It is caused by excessive intake of high-calorie nutrients such as sugar, honey and saturated fats. Fat accumulate in tissue, leading to overweight and awkward body.This may leads to high blood pressure, diabetes and heart ailments. Regular exercise and taking of green vegetable are recommended to such person.

3. Hypervitaminosis:-

Excess of vitamin A cause lack of appetite, sparcity of hair, itching rash and painful swelling over long bones. The disorder disappears when intake of vitamin A is stopped.

Excess of vitamin D cause deposition of calcium in soft tissue.

4. Fluorosis:-

It is caused by excessive intake of fluorine. It is characterized by mottled teeth.

Treatment of overnutrition and obisity:-

By reducing the amount of food you eat so that your energy intake is less than your energy expenditure. One kg of fat in your body stores 7700 Kcals. You can lose this extra kg of weight in two weeks by consuming 500 Kcals less then you spend daily. These 500 Kcals can be reduced by one’s intake of oily foods, sweets, starchy food, and if necessary, some cereals and dhals.
